Burma Shave Signage Posted on Old Natchez Trace

Citizens for Old Natchez Trace is pleased to announce the newest signage we have erected in our efforts to protect and preserve the Old Natchez Trace. These green and white “Burma Shave” signs send a message to travelers along the ONT.

Traveling toward Sneed Road the signs read: “Rochford Profits / At Any Cost / Taxpayers Pay / Historic Land Lost / Citizens for Old Natchez Trace.org”

Turning onto the ONT from Sneed Road the signs read: Rochford’s Turn Lane / Not the Right Place / Adding Traffic To / Old Natchez Trace / Citizens for Old Natchez Trace.org

Citizens continues to work with county officials to voice of concerns about the proposed turn lane and the harm it will cause to the integrity of the Old Natchez Trace. The sensitive template the county highway department utilized to repair and repave the ONT has preserved its scenic beauty and historic assets. This 4 mile piece of the original roadbed of the ONT built by United States soldiers in 1801, allows travelers to transcend time….if they obey the speed limit….and enjoy a bit of cool courtesy of the tree canopied shade.

We encourage everyone who treasures our county’s national treasure to support Citizens for ONT in our continued efforts to STAND UP FOR OUR RURAL LANDSCAPE.

Citizens has also been working to continue the community push back to the density in the Stephens Valley subdivision as well as continuing to call attention to the devastation this dense housing will have on the viewshed from the Natchez Trace Parkway. Our community must continue to voice our concerns and let Rochford know that his super-sized subdivision does not fit on this historic landscape.
